Writer's Block: Full Moon Fever

It's the full moon today. Almost every culture has its share of lunar lore, from werewolves to lunacy to true love. Do you believe that the full moon affects our behavior or do you think it's a myth?

View 501 Answers

I once thought that the full moon thing was just a myth. Then, I got a job in childcare; I don't even need a calendar anymore to tell when there's a full moon. I can tell quite easily by how weird the kids start acting. Finally an explanation for my ridiculously short naptimes this week.
Gotta love Monday's

So I had a busy day at work today. For the first time since I changed classrooms we had a full house today. This is before I mention that it was Monday and for some weird reason many of the kids were unusally crabby today. Nicely enough the icy conditions that we got hit with today enticed many of our parents to pick up their children early today, which led to me getting off an hour early and in high hopes that I will either not have to work tomorrow, or (more probable) have a riduculously shortened day.

In terms of what's been going on in my personal life, we really enjoyed going back to Michigan to visit family over the Thansgiving holiday. What wasn't fun was having my wife, Kristy get sick when we got home. She did start feeling better this weekend so yay for us getting the Christmas tree put up(and partially decorated) and getting started with the task of Christmas shopping.

Thats all for now, I feel kinda bad for not posting to my journal more often, but life hasnt presented itself with a whole lot of post-worthy material...and I've bene lazy. I promise I'll get better.

Writer's Block: Idiomatic Confusion

Whether it's a canary in the coal mine or a waitress in the weeds, idiomatic expressions can sometimes stump us even in our own language. What common expression puzzles you the most?

View 500 Answers

How is it that when I say "I could care less" or "I couldn't care less" they both mean the same thing?

Why is it that we say I'm taking a crap when in reality you are leaving one.

but the one that takes the cake for me is when people say its "cold as hell"---Have you heard about hell???? Everything I've heard is that hell tends to be filled with fire, which tends to be hot?

Writer's Block: Everything That's Fit to Print

The New York Times was first published on this day in 1851. How important is print news to you? Does the internet render circulation obsolete, or will print never die?

View 426 Answers

The internet is a wonderful place to go for information!! Especially when you are looking for information about a city that you can't get a local paper for. However, at the same time, I still find myself liking the print version better. As far as books go, I'm not an avid reader, but I know my wife is, and I'm sure there are many more like her, therefore I certainly hope that the press can continue to coexist with the net.

Well, How happy we are to finally be settled into the new apartment, and yay for me getting through my last job and last Sunday at my Rhinelander church without tears. A GREAT BIG THANK YOU!!!!!! goes out to the Kirby kids and Bill from Pine Grove Church and Josh from Mad-town for the massive amounts of help moving.
Its official- were moving

Not that we're not happy in Rhinelander or anything but, Ive been offered a position in Madison that I absolutely cannot refuse. I'm so excited to be going to a new bigger city and all the opportunities there, but I will certainly miss all the relationships that I was able to develop in Rhinelander. We're looking at moving somwhere in the Aug 18-24 date range as I start my new job on the 25th. Anyways anyone thats available either on the Rhinelander end or on the Madison end thats willing to help would be greatly appreciated...Well now that my thoughts are out on paper...errr on da puter maybe I can get some sleepies.

Sorry I've been so lax in writing- Been busy as %$$*&( lately!!! Anyways not much is new. Kristy and I severely needed to get out of town last weekend so we drove down to Green Bay and were quite excited to find a Long John Silvers on the way!!! We havent had that in FOREVER. Anyways I have a home classroom at work again- Not that I minded floating-- but yea for the 6wk-1yr crowd. Its fun so far- I finally got around to rearranging my room yesterday and am so excited to go back on Monday(ok so maybe thats exaggerating a little) Anyways also looking forward to the 4th coming up when I can make it back to visit fam in MI and use some of my less than legal fireworks that I dont dare try in the city where Im at now. Anyways thats all for now. My prayers go out to all those affected by the flooding downstate and elsewhere in the country.

A Long short week

Has anyone else ever wondered why it seems that those weeks that go along with a 3 day weekend (a only 4 day workweek) seem to take longer to go by? Nothing overly terrible, Just seemed to take forever for this weekend to get here. We had a WONDERFUL Mem. Day weekend enjoyed with both sets of parents. Kristy and I took a drive down to Mackinaw City Sunday night and we were able to talk about a lot of stuffs that we've been needing to talk about and then her mom was able to talk to me as well about all the stuff that goes with having a parent that is getting dementia, and going downhill fast, while I am 300 miles away. We did decide that, even though Kristy might not be able to come with every time, more frequent visits to the parents would be appropriate. A GREAT BIG THANK YOU goes out to Kristy's parents who went so far above and beyond putting us up for the weekend (or is that supposed to be putting up with us???) and took us shopping and just basically saw to it that we had a awesome time.

As far as the workweek goes, I was in the 3 yr old room all last week, which was OK. I made quite a few changes to the room and am somewhat eager to see what the regular teacher thinks about it on Monday (All other center staff LOVE IT) I am also very excited that I am kinda getting a home classroom in the Tiny Tots bldg. working with younger than 2 yr olds.--Just will be moving around a bit on mtw afternoons which is ok.

Boooo for me getting sick mid-week. Was kinda weird tho Thought I was gonna have to call in when I went to bed Wed. night and woke up on Thurs feeling fine. Allergies...Grrrrrrr.

As far as our plans for this weekend- Well after last weekend I think its a good time to do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!

Writer's Block: Improvised Parenting!!?!

Let's say you're a hobgoblin for 24 hours. What sort of havoc would you wreak?

Or:

If a baby of unknown origins suddenly fell into your care, would you keep it? What would you name it?

View 500 Answers

What a quetion to get me thinking!!! First of all, I would make attempts to find out where the baby came from, who his/her parents were, and how/why it got to be in my care. Assuming I got no answers from that search then of course I would keep it and care for it as if it were my own. As far as a name is concerned, that is something that I would discuss with my wife and have to decide if and when that time came, depending on the personality of the baby.

A Fun Weekend

Well, As I said in previous posts, We drove to visit our family in St. Ignace, MI for the weekend. The trip started very nicely with an earlier than anticipated departue since I was able to escape work very early( 1 PM vs the scheduled 3). Trip was nice. We took my nephews to the mall in Traverse City yesterday. Grandma loved it because she was able to get some shopping done withou kids underfoot and I roamed the mall with the kids. Then we crossed the street and everyone went their own way in the ginormous shopping center. Me and the kids of course went to toys-r-us. Then we came home- Yea for Lunch at Cracker Barrel and dinner at Wendys- 2 restaurants that we love but dont have in our hometown.

Today needs to go down in the calendar. Not only was Kristy up before me, She had to opportunity to wake me up. Usually the opposite on Sunday mornings.(can't have anything to do with me having inet access and being on till 3 am) We were able to visit with many of our old church family today, which was great and yay for 2 bbqs this weekend, one today at her parents house and again tomorrow at mine:)Nummies!!!

Well Im off to a tickling match with my nephews.

I really have diffuculty answering that question because at different times of my life, different songs can apply,, but some that come to mind that have influenced me are "Iris" by Goo Goo Dolls, "Only God Knows Why" by Kid Rock, "Every Rose has Its Thorn" by Poison, "America Again" by Carmen and the one by Whitney Houston that starts "I Believe the Children are the Future"

"Iris" best touchs that time in my life when I kept my true self and feelings so hidden because I was scared of what the world would think of me,

"Only God Knows Why" is the song that I search out at those times when ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING is going crappy and I'm wondering why I'm still trying.

"Every Rose has Its Thorn" of course came to mind during break-ups, but also when I was faced with a few diffucult situations professionally,,,that I'm not going into here.

"America Again" pretty much sums up the way I feel about our country as a whole.

And Lastly "I believe..." reminds me why I do the work that I do.
My thoughts for the day

We finished Sunday School for the (school) year today, and honestly I had pretty mixed feelings about it. While it is so nice to have a break for the summer I'm going to miss seeing the kids every Sunday morning. Our church had a guest precher this morning and he really hit home with something I've been struggling with a lot over the past few years. I keep contemplating the idea of moving to a bigger city where better paying job opportunities exist, but If I did that what would be my motive? I see the impact I'm making on the children that I work with here and continue to ask myself how I could put a price on that but at the same time it can get very frustrating to be making so little money and have no benefits. Oh well, As I've told myself several times before, Wherever God wants me, He will open the door for me to get there.

Im still alive!!!

Sorry I havent written in so long, Maybe somebody needs to spank me. Not much new has happened though. Work is going as well as can be expected. Yay for the fact that I will be getting a raise soon. I have all but given up on getting my van running.(I think its the theme vehicle for Adam Sandlers "Piece of Shit Car") but we seem do be doing well doing the carpool/sharing a vehicle thing.(Which is nice for the omg3.89 gas prices) Yay for springtime and green grass and the snow getting out of here finally. Boooo for the stupid tourists coming up and forgetting how to drive...I almost got hit about 3 times in my 2 mile drive to the lib grrrr.
As far as special stuffs that weve done recently:
Kristy and I went to a BDSM party in Stevens Point a few weeks ago which was fun.(Was the first time for both of us being to such an event.) We also went to a Marraige Seminar by Dr. Gary Chapman last month which was absolutely awesome. I recommend his resources to anyone who might be going through marital/relationship issues, or even if you're not and just want to build on what you have going.

To my friends in St. Ignace- I am planning on visiting there next weekend but most of our time will be tied to being with family.
To our Metro Detroit friends- still debating making it to Confusion next year...leaning more and more towards wanting to esp since it lands right on my birthday:)
and to my Wisconite friends wondering when the next ageplay party will be- sorry ive been so freakin busy with church and work type stuffs but ideas that are in the works are for the summer having a day at the dells.-start out at a waterpark as a munch and fun for people that want then having a typical party that evening and doing a slumberparty type thing in milwaukee. sorry no idea for dates on either.

Thats all for nows.

Life goes on

Nothing too exciting happened this week. Kristy and I were able to talk about a lot of stuff last Saturday and all seems to be well there. We took a drive to Appleton on Sunday for no other reason than to get out of town. Was able to hook up with someone that may have a house to use in the Milwaukee area for a party next month. I'm thinking that will work so much better than trying to do the hotel thing, not to mention I havent got to do the sightseeing thing in Milwaukee yet so thinking that could be fun. As far as spritual issues go, I was able to go to a prayer seminar last night that was really uplifting. The only bad thing was my van dying.....again.....but we did finally figure out that the problem was with the alternator and now that its fixed all seems to be well in the neighborhood again. I have but one complaint about this week.......It is the 2nd week of March!!!Why must we continue to see single digit and (gulp) negative temperatures????

Well TTFN

Charley

What a week

Yay for this really shitty week being over. It all started last Saturday when I woke up puking and spending the whole day laying on the couch unable to eat or drink anything(and have it not come back up) To add insult, the temps were in the freakin 40s last weekend and beautiful sunshinny type weather. Then on to the work week. All went as usual until Wednesday when I came back from my lunch break and (stupid me) left my lights on. Conveniantly enough I was also parked in a way that made it impossible to be jumpstarted. (Did I mention that Im the closer...which mean I'm the absolutely last person to leave the building. So yay Im stuck at work for an hr or so until nicely enough my boss stops by to pick something up and gives me a ride home. Then comes Thusday. I get home from work and get into a silent argument with Kristy. Grrrrr... But yay for last night since I finally got some much needed little me time. Well Theres my week in a nutshell. Thinking about going for a drive today. But who knows where I'll end up.

Until next time...

It's been a really long week

YAY for Friday!!!!

This has been a hellacious week at work. It started on Monday...at 6:10 a.m. when I awoke to my boss calling and saying she needed me at work as early as possible since 3 of our 8 staff people called in. All things considered Monday didnt go bad...just long since I was still there till 530 PM. ..Then came that stupid lunar eclipse. Just in case anyone doesn't believe the whole Full Moon myth come check out our kids the day after some weird Moon action. They were ALL bouncing off the walls. and to make it worse our temps were in the comfortable -10 range so we didn't get to take them outside:(

One would think that a week like that would make me sick of dealing with kids so what do I do? Why I volunteer to babysit at church of course. THough that went very well, but I guess 2 kids is a piece of cake when you've been dealing with over 30 all day.

Anyways, So much for ranting about work and on to ranting about being so sick of winter and so ready for Spring and Summer.

For my ageplay friends, here are my VERY tentative party plans for this year. I'm thinking a Spring time party either in Appleton or Eau Claire area and a Summer gathering at the Dells. If you have any input on either lmk

Well thats all for now.

Writer's Block: Who Pays the Deducitble?

Of course I would pay especially if the accident was my fault. I believe one of the severe problems of our culture today is that too many people do not take responsibility for their own actions and are too quick to play the blame game. Thus all the stupid frivilous lawsuits that we see today.

You crash your friend's car because you're driving too fast in bad weather. Everyone's okay, but the car has to go into the shop. Do you pay the deductible?

View 500 Answers

Fiscal Fasting

Well, after reading Jeff Yeagers new book, The Ultimate Cheapskates Road Map.. or something like that, Kristy and I decided to give the "Fiscal Fast" thing a try. What it boils down to is that for one week we are not allowed to spend any money whatsoever. So far so good, been kinda easy for Kristy since shes been sick all week. I'm not doing too bad myself but have a feeling it will be a struggle on Saturday
(which is when I usually find myself roaming around town) I do have to agree with most of the book that e seem to get more enjoyment out of the things in life that are free so why do we spend so much damn money on crap we really don't need.

I had a wonderful realization today, I looked out the window at 5:00 pm at work today and realized that...YAY...we still had daylight!!! Which means that spring is coming soon:) But speaking of work, whoever has been causing my kids to bahave so nutty recently can stop anytime now.(Had 3 biting incidents taking place all at the same time today, Though I do have to give the 2 yr old bravery points for going after a 5 yr old)

Well Thats all for now....Only 2 more days till Friday Yay!!!

No Regret's Conference

Yesterday, I was very excited to attend the "No Regret's" Men's Ministry conference in a suburb of Milwaukee. I was so spritually uplifted!!! It was amazing. Some of the bigger changes I am wanting to make include being more mindful to my wife Kristy's needs, and just in general being less judgemental of people and more loving. If anyone knows me really well, they will know that I am deeply involved in ageplay or infantilism and also consider myself to be a Christian. One of the seminars that I attended dealt with Homosexuality and how a Christian should respond. First off, the Bible clearly states that homosexuality is a sin. However, it also states that many many many other behaviors are considered sins including many things that you, I and all of us have done. Romans 3:23 tells us that we ALL have sinned. The bible does NOT say ANYWHERE that homosexuality is worse than any other sin that we may have committed. So with that information how do we handle the homosexual people in our life? I cant quote chapter and verse but the top two commandments are to love the Lord with all your heart and to love your neighbor as yourself...It is not the Christian's (my) job to condemn ANYONE but to treat everyone with love. A favorite biblical quote of mine is to Let he without sin cast the first stone. Jesus came to live among us and always treated the sinner with love...Why should I be any different?

Ok so enough with my preaching bit- but in case you couldn't tell I got really FIRED UP yesterday. I also got to thinking about my career. I have been considering seeking another job recently(I hope my boss isn't reading this) when I got to thinking that I believe I am right where I should be. There are sooooooo many boys that lack that positive male role model that I am able to provide. How can I compare my paycheck to something like that.

As far as life in general, I really wish Kristy and I would each be done being sick. Other than that we are both doing wonderfully.

Well, Until next time...
